Unn Fahlstrøm – sort series

Sort serie 4 #3-6

I Fahlstrøms arbeid med analog video ønsket hun å jobbe i store formater og måtte bearbeide materialet innenfor et annet medium. Hun ble interessert i forbindelsene mellom video og tekstil, og brukte tekstiltråden som en måte å jobbe med de horisontale linjene som videobildet var bygget opp av. Denne prosessen har resultert i trådbaserte arbeider på oppspent lerret.

Trådene strekkes horisontalt fra den ene siden av lerretet til den andre og dekker billedflaten med rette linjer i 2,5-5 millimeters avstand. Noen tråder løper uavbrutt, mens andre avbrytes av sting som gjør at duken kommer til syne. Prosjektet så langt består av arbeider i formatet 190×130 cm på oppspent linduk. Materialene er med lintråd og håndspunnet silketråd.

– The works shown in House of Foundation are part of a series called “Black series” that was first shown in 2018.

– The exhibition period is set to a whole year, a format House of Foundation has called “process exhibition”.

– In this first part I show works alone, but I have also invited other artists that will exhibit together with me throughout the year. They are: Kjell Bjørgeengen (video), Åse Ljones (textile), and Stein Rønning (sculpture).

– I previously worked for about ten years with videoinstallation, both digital and analoge. And especially analoge video has been decisive for developing this technique and the use of exactly these materials.

– The threads are from linen and from handspun silk. The lines run parallel with 2,5 mm distance. The format is 190×130 cm which means there are about 500 threads next to each other in such a work.
